Online Marriage in Pakistan
Marriage by means of the internet and modern devices in Pakistan is legal and permissible. The trend of online marriages in Pakistan is rapidly growing and provides ease in the process of contracting marriage for those who live abroad or who’s physical presence in Pakistan is not possible because of time and other reasons like travelling etc. Contracting online marriage in Pakistan is also less expensive and cost effective.
The online marriage process does not require the physical presence of the parties at a certain place; rather the process is carried out on a video call through modern devices. However, the marriage is to be contracted in the physical or virtual presence of the marriage registrar commonly known as a Nikkah Khawan. Where he must belong to the area where both or any of the party resides.

The online marriage process does not require the physical presence of the parties at a certain place; rather the process is carried out on a video call through modern devices. However, the marriage is to be contracted in the physical or virtual presence of the marriage registrar commonly known as a Nikkah Khawan. Where he must belong to the area where both or any of the party resides.
The signature of the parties is required on Nikah Nama which can be done by two ways.
- By way of Digital Signatures.
- By way of appointing an attorney to sign.
Documents are Required for Online Marriage in Pakistan:
1. Copies of CNIC of both Bride and Groom (or copy of Passport).
2. Six Passport size photographs.
3. Letter of Appointment/permission letter
4. Two witnesses with their copy of CNIC (must be physically present)
5. If the groom is performing a second marriage. Then proof of permission is required.
6. In the case of the bride’s second marriage then a valid Divorce Certificate/Death Certificate of a deceased partner is required.
All the proceedings shall be carried out in the virtual presence of the parties and physical presence of the witnesses and Nikah Registrar.
